Tennis Teams Up

Wheelchair Tennis South Africa (WTSA) has announced the teams to represent South Africa in this year’s Invacare World Team Cup at the end of July in Nottingham, England.
Celia Botha in actionSydwell Mathonsi, Desmond Monyamane, Evans Maripa, and Marshall Marsh were named as the Men’s Team, coached by Holger Losch, while Kgothatso Montjane, Celia Botha and Nancy Moremi were named as the Women’s Team, they shall be coached by Craig Fairall.
The South African wheelchair tennis teams were selected at a camp for athletes as part of Wheelchair Tennis South Africa’s High Performance Programme. The camp was held in Johannesburg during the month of May. During the camp, sponsored by Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) and the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF), players were selected based on their performance as well as on their overall achievements in tournaments over the past twelve months.
Marshall Marsh shows why he is part of the team“The players selected for the 2009 team all show consistent performance, solid skills, passion for the sport and dedication. Both teams have players who have represented South Africa at previous World Team Cup’s as well as players where this is their first exposure at an event of this magnitude. The experience some players such as Kgothatso Montjane and Sydwell Mathonsi have of playing in the World Team Cup will be invaluable to the team, especially to the younger players, as we prepare for the 2012 Paralympics.” says Holger Losch, Director of Wheelchair Tennis and men’s team coach.
As part of their corporate social investment strategy ACSA has provided funding for the two South African teams to prepare for participation in the World Team Cup. The costs of the team’s participation at the event will be made possible by a grant from the NLDTF, which will cover travel, accommodation, and entry costs for the players and the coaches.
