Sabat Wheelchair Race

In October 30,000 Kyalami spectators cheered as 30 QASA members reached top speeds of 16 kilometres per hour, competing for the coveted title of “The Fastest Quad” in SABAT’s 7th Annual Power Wheelchair race; the only one of its kind in the world.
QASA encourages quadriplegics and paraplegics to participate in sport and hobby activities and the SABAT race is a perfect platform for the users of power wheelchairs to demonstrate their toggle skills and enjoy the thrill of some “wind in the hair” competition.

Debbie Barnard was the first lady to cross the finish line. In the men's race – Shawn Arde came 3rd, Andre Hattingh 2nd and the indomitable Andy Smith won with his home modified chair.
