Great Britain (GB) para cyclist and global brand ambassador for Legacy Education Alliance (LEA) Jaco van Gass, who was born in South Africa, returns to his birthplace this month on an epic double mission. He will form part of the first team to include people with disabilities participating in the Absa Cape Epic race that will take place in the Western Cape from March 17 to 24. And, in another first, he will share his story with South Africa in person at the Epic Networking event in partnership with LEA. “I am excited and honoured to be back in South Africa, participating in such an exciting and challenging race and also to speak at the Epic Networking event on April 2,” Van Gass notes.

“I have been working with LEA for a few years now, both in my role as ambassador and also as a student along with my partner, Kathryn. We’re both learning so much from LEA training and mentoring and have developed a passion for property investing. Mindset is key when building a property investment business.

“Hopefully I will be able to inspire and motivate the Epic audience. Let’s hope I can also bring home a medal from the Absa Cape Epic with my fellow team member, Stu Croxford!”

Van Gass, a retired member of the British Armed Forces Parachute Regiment, sustained life-changing injuries from a rocket-propelled grenade explosion during his second tour of Afghanistan in 2009. His injuries required 11 operations and intense rehabilitation. Despite the loss of limbs, his resilience and mental and emotional tenacity gave him the strength to take on new life challenges.

Van Gass went on to become a leading international adventurer alongside Prince Harry, as well as a double gold medallist at the Invictus Games and a valued member of the GB para-cycling team. Welcoming Van Gass to South Africa, Peter Marthinusen, South African country manager for LEA, says: “LEA is looking forward to welcoming a local hero as our guest speaker at Grant Smee’s Epic Networking event next month.

“As the expression goes: ‘Your network is your net worth.’ The Epic Networking event brings together like-minded people who are learning how to become professional property investors and business owners. Best of luck with the race from everyone at LEA around the world!”

Van Gass’s inspirational and emotive story will be heard for the first time in South Africa. Details for this one-off event are as follows:
