Mercedes-Benz Dynamic Driving and Rolling Rehab
Mercedes-Benz Dynamic Driving and Rolling Rehab teamed up to host a Dynamic Driving course for people with disabilities, especially geared for special needs behind the steering wheel, at the Mercedes-Benz Dynamic Driving Academy at Zwartkops Raceway near Pretoria. Early morning coffee was accompanied by in depth, and graphic, videos showing the importance of purchasing a vehicle with intelligent devices such as ABS braking, and what happens when you haven’t buckled up.
Louis Nortje’s Easy Rider Hand Controls were fitted to a number of Mercedes-Benz C63 AMGs and it was off to the skidpan where wheels turned (or failed to turn!) and water passed by, keeping the pan slick and unforgiving. Intelligent devices were disabled and drivers were put through their paces, trying to maintain control of the C63 AMGs, learning how to recover from under and over steer and how to stop in the wet. Drivers were also given the option of using their own vehicles and Leda Medical provided specialised seating restraints. Towards lunchtime, and to silence any naysayers, the electronic safety assists were turned back on and it became immediately obvious to all just how important a role they play in our safety.
The day was sponsored by Avis, Continental Tyres and Sasol.
