DJ Lloyd Barkzz Babedi hopes to bring his “It’s a mindset” (#DonateAWheelchair) campaign to the entire Gauteng province. Lloyd is the founder of Barkzz World Foundation, an organisation that advocates for the social integration of people with disabilities. Lloyd, who has a disability himself, lives in Alexandra.

After graduating from Hope School in 2007, he had numerous jobs, including a position at the SABC. However, his passion for creating economic opportunities for people with disabilities led him to establish the Barkzz World Foundation.

“Our values at the Foundation are driven by the core belief that disability is not an inability. People with physical challenges have as much potential to contribute to society as physically enabled people once platforms have been created for all members of society to have access to the same opportunities,” Lloyd notes.

The Foundation offers motivational speaking; coaching and mentoring clinics; disability awareness campaigns; dissemination of information through various media platforms; addressing the rights of people with disabilities; and fundraising programmes, for example, the #DonateAWheelchair project.

The  “It’s a mindset” campaign is aimed at inspiring and encouraging people with a disability to participate in social and economic activities. Its purpose is to educate communities about various disabilities, discredit cultural myths and stigmas around disability, and restore confidence.

The campaign will take place at various community centres across Gauteng. According to Lloyd, the ten-month campaign tour will cover 990 km and cost R762 800. It will include aerobic exercise, fun walks, dialogues and debates, motivational speaking and the donation of wheelchairs.

If you are interested to participate or donate, contact the Foundation via email at barkzzworld@gmail.com or phone 081 055 6514. Learn more about the Barkzz World Foundation and the #DonateAWheelchair campaign below.
