Casual Day – an annual event to support people with disabilities – will take place next week on Friday, 3 September 2021. Organised by the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD), this year’s theme is courage and kindness.

“Our gratitude goes to our loyal supporters who have, over the years, assisted us to raise more than R400 million,” says the NCPD about the event. “A special thank you to supporters who participated in last year’s Casual Day. Because of you, we were able to go ahead with Casual Day 2020, despite very difficult circumstances, and still assist many persons with disabilities, who need our support now more than ever before.”

The NCPD has a partnership with Disney for its Casual Day event. The theme for this year was inspired by the Disney The Ultimate Disney Princess Celebration. Of the partnership, the NCPD says: “Our superb 2020 partners – Disney Africa and Accenture – are taking the lead, again, in having the courage and kindness to go all out in supporting Casual Day.”

“For Casual Day we ask you to look deep inside and find your bravest, most compassionate self and ‘pay it forward’ into the world,” the organisation says.

In support of event, people are encouraged to purchase their R20 Casual Day and/or some of the official merchandise for the event, including t-shirts, caps and wristbands.

The QuadPara Association of South Africa (QASA) is participating in the event by selling Casual Day stickers and merchandise. For the support, the organisation gets to keep a portion of the money made from each item sold.

QASA project coordinator, Zandile Miya, says about the event: “Casual Day creates a lot of excitement in the workplace as staff members dress up with the causal day merchandise or theme related outfits to support this great initiative. However, underlying all the fun is the serious business of raising money and changing perceptions of persons with disabilities.”

She encourages people to purchase their stickers. If you would like to support Casual Day (and QASA), purchase your stickers by phoning the QASA office on 031 767 0348 or send an e-mail to projectcoordinator@qasa.co.za.
