From off-road tank chairs to 4×4 vehicles, the Adaptive 4×4 Experience hosted by the Adaptive Sports Fund had something for everyone
Adventure isn’t about where you can go. It’s about having the opportunity to get there. For many people with disabilities, off-road experiences can seem out of reach. Adaptive Sports Fund set out to change that with a first-of- its-kind Adaptive 4×4 Experience at Rebel 4×4, bringing together a range of adapted vehicles and equipment for participants to experience.
The event was about much more than simply getting behind the wheel. Participants could explore several different forms of adaptive off-road technology, with the Polaris side-by-side, fitted with adaptive hand controls by Shoprider, being one of the biggest attractions.
The Polaris proved surprisingly easy to operate for people with disabilities, while still delivering the speed, excitement and adrenaline expected from a side-by-side. For many participants, taking control and tackling the terrain themselves was an unforgettable experience.
Another major highlight was the tank chairs. With their incredible versatility and off-road capability, these machines can tackle terrain that would be impossible for a conventional wheelchair. Participants had the opportunity to operate the tank chairs themselves, experiencing first-hand the freedom and independence they can provide.
For those looking for an even bigger adrenaline rush, the extreme 4×4 vehicles were ready to deliver. Expert drivers took participants over some of the venue’s most challenging obstacles, creating plenty of jaw- dropping moments, laughter and excitement. Watching the vehicles climb, tilt and conquer terrain that looked almost impossible was an experience in itself.
What made the day particularly special was that it wasn’t just for participants with disabilities. Family and friends were encouraged to join, creating an environment where everyone could enjoy the experience together. Whether driving, riding, watching the action or simply enjoying the day with loved ones, there was something for everyone.
The turnout was incredible, making it a definite one for the record books. More importantly, the event demonstrated what can happen when adaptive technology, adventure and inclusion come together. It gave people the chance to try something new, challenge themselves and, perhaps most importantly, discover that disability doesn’t have to mean giving up on adventure.
A huge thank you goes to Rebel 4×4 for hosting us and embracing the vision of an inclusive adventure experience. We would also like to thank our incredible sponsors, Verder, Joey Evans and the STM Team, whose continued support helps Adaptive Sports Fund create opportunities like this.
At Adaptive Sports Fund, we believe adventure shouldn’t stop where the tar road ends. Sometimes, the greatest experiences begin when you leave the road behind.
