HelpSee, created by Lehlohonolo Pakeng, is an AI-driven platform designed to assist individuals with disabilities to communicate during emergency situations. The web-based platform can immediately be accessed through any smartphone browser, which prevents delays and ensures it is usable on every device.

HelpSee translates patient input in real time to support non-verbal communication and provide emergency responders with clear, accurate information.

In an emergency, users can upload photos of their environment to collect vital information about the environment. The AI will:

  • Detect visible signs of distress, injury or medical danger.;
  • Recognise movement patterns, collapse, stroke indicators and abnormal behaviour;
  • Interprets environmental hazards such as weapons, fire or unsafe surroundings; and
  • Identifies marks of abuse or domestic-violence indicators.

It then generates a structed emergency report with all the critical details that assist responders with getting a complete picture of the situation. These reports can be shared instantly through WhatsApp, SMS or as an PDF export.

“Many people freeze, panic, or forget basic information like their location. HelpSee fills that gap instantly,” says Lehlohonolo.

“Accessibility is not an afterthought. It’s a human right. HelpSee was built on the belief that every patient deserves the same chance of survival and dignity, no matter their disability or communication ability,” he adds.
