Eric Miles Cheshire Home (EMCH), a residential facility for people with physically disabilities in Cape Town, is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a series of bold and meaningful initiatives.
The celebrations are kicking off with the unveiling of the largest printed QR code in South Africa. This Saturday (17 January), the 100 m2 printed QR code will be unveiled. People are encouraged to follow EMCH on social media to discover where the QR Code leads, and how it connects to the Home’s mission.
Other events this year includes board members participating in the Cape Town Cycle Tour while pulling a resident in a buggy for the full 109 kilometres; a 70s disco party on 12 June; and the Home’s Annual Fete on 31 October, which has been running for over 30 years.
Established in 1976, the home receives grants from the Department of Social Development; however, this only covers about 20 percent of its operations. The remaining funding is made through donations. Income made through these events will go towards maintaining the home.
