Microdox60 game changer in preventing UTIs

In May, NuAngle hosted a webinar to discuss how to manage urinary tract infections (UTIs) at home without antibiotics. During the presentation Dr Virginia Wilson, nurse Beth Mack and Ari Seirlis shared how the Sonoma Microdox60 had a significant impact on preventing and clearing up UTIs.

What is Microdox60

Microdox60 is a bladder rinse solution specifically designed to help treat and prevent UTIs. When the bladder doesn’t empty naturally, there is a high risk of bacteria build up, which can be worsened when a catheter is reused to empty the bladder.

By rinsing with Microdox60, individuals kill any bacteria build up. This is done simply by putting the solution into the bladder with a catheter tip syringe and leaving it for up to 15 minutes. The recommended dosage is 30 millilitres, but more or less can be used depending on your need.

If you suspect you might have a bladder infection, it is recommended to use Microdox60 twice a day for three days. Thereafter, it can be used once or twice a week as maintenance.

The evidence

All three presenters sang their praises of Microdox60 and its effectiveness to kill bacteria. Dr Virginia has several patients who were prone to multiple bladder infections a year. After starting their Microdox60 treatment, their infections significantly decrease or disappeared completely.

For Ari, switching to single-use intermittent catheters played a big role in stopping all UTIs. However, he did still find himself on the brink of an infection on occasion. Microdox60 has completely relieved him of all and any symptoms of an incoming infection (including profuse sweating, nausea, increased spasms or nerve pain). He described it as a “game changer, a life changer”.

Refuse to reuse

For individuals who rely on intermittent catheterisation, it is very crucial to switch over to single-use catheters. Bacteria can remain on and inside a catheter even after it is cleaned, which can increase the bacteria in your bladder and lead to an infection.

Through the advocacy work of Access to Health, including QASA, the Council of Medical Schemes have ruled that single-use catheters should be completely funded by medical aids. Thus, you can insist on fully funded single-use catheters. If you need assistance with approaching your funder, you are welcome to contact QASA for assistance at info@qasa.co.za.

For individuals in more rural areas where catheters are scarce, or there is a lack of water, Microdox60 can be used to clean your catheter as nurse Beth recommends. This should of course be a last resort.
