The wheelchair tennis star, along with the other winners, will receive prize money between R5 000 and R20 000 in an effort to give value and investment in the winners’ achievements.

To combat the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, the event took place as a virtual awards presentation.

In the run up to the event, Gsport interviewed Montjane about her career and relationship to the news organisation. Read the full interview here.

This is some of the only good news as Montjane is unable to attend the US Opens to be held in New York from August 31 to September 13. The decision is in part because Montjane believes it is unsafe for her to travel regardless of the measures put in place by the organisers to ensure the safety of the player, and in part of the national restrictions on international travel.

Congratulations to Montjane on your well-deserved win!
