The annual Sabat Wheelchair Race, hosted by Sabat Batteries and Auto X in partnership with the QuadPara Association of South Africa (QASA), returned to the Zwartkops Raceway on Sunday, August 4, to crown the fastest quad on the block. The race formed part of a host of activities at the annual Cars in the Park event.
At the 2019 Sabat Wheelchair Race, 22 quadriplegics took to the go-kart track at Zwartkops in their power wheelchairs. After a tightly contested one-lap race, Shaun Arde proved himself to be the fastest man, while Soneke de Wit was the first woman over the finish line.
In addition to hosting the annual race, Sabat Batteries also supports quadriplegic members of QASA by offering them a set of batteries every two years so that they can remain mobile. The Sabat Power Wheelchair Race celebrates this relationship between QASA and Auto X.
QASA CEO Ari Seirlis says: “QASA is very grateful for this long-standing partnership whereby every quadriplegic who is a member of QASA and uses a power wheelchair can get a set of batteries every two years.”
