The Department of Transport (DoT) has launched its annual Transport Survey on the universal accessibility of the transportation systems in South Africa for people with disabilities, elderly people, women, and children. They are ask all South Africans to complete it – even if you have done so on a previous year!
The goal is to see where transport is still inaccessible so that is can be addressed. As the surveyors explain: “Under transport legislation, if transport is still inaccessible to you or difficult to use, then it is still a barrier that has to be fixed. Please feel free to let us know if transport barriers have been fixed or not or have worsened for whatever reason.”
The short survey will ask about the modes of transport that you can or can’t use, and the first and last mile of your trip (usually the distance between the public transport and your home).
There is a longer survey available at the end to provide even more information, if you like.
For those who use many different modes of transport, there is the option of completing the survey more than once. People with disabilities and/or children who are unable to complete the form independently are encouraged to ask help from their caregiver.
Give your feedback by completing the form here.
