Participating in the Dakar Rally was not enough for Joey Evans! Now, he plans to act as navigator for Terence Marsh at the upcoming South African Cross-Country Series (SACCS) Atlas Copco 400 in Bronkhorstspruit. The duo will drive the Red-Lined Motoring Adventure Nissan Navara on August 4, 2018, in the fourth round of the series.
“I am very excited to be in the navigator seat next to Terence in his Nissan Navara. It is slightly different to being on a bike, but the adrenaline junkie in me can’t wait,” Evans says.
In 2007, Evans broke his back in the Heidelberg Harescramble. Doctors told the young Evans that he would never be able to walk again. However, through a rigorous rehabilitation programme, he did learn to walk again (although some SCI-related complications remain, such as controlling his temperature and bowel movements).
In 2017, Evans took on the Dakar Rally. During the race, he was in an accident in which his motorcycle was badly damaged. His dream of finishing the Rally nearly ended right there – but then he spotted an abandoned motorcycle … and he was able to finish the 9 000-km journey.
