Man faced off with machine at the Killarney International Raceway on Monday to create awareness and promote The Cape 1000, an annual rally that pays homage to endurance rallies with a beautiful drive through the Western Cape. The rally includes classic, modern and super cars.

The Cape 1000 has named the QuadPara Association of South Africa (QASA) as one of its beneficiaries, along with The Motorsport Legends Benevolent Fund.

To raise awareness for QASA, and to promote the upcoming rally, The Cape 1000 arranged for QASA member and para athlete Brandon Beack to race against a Ferrari 296 GTS.

“The race between Brandon and a Ferrari aims to highlight the relationship between QASA and The Cape 1000 in a unique way that will capture media attention,” says Vanessa Crichton, event director of The Cape 1000. “We hope to shine a spotlight on QASA and The Motorsport Legends Benevolent Funds as beneficiaries of The Cape 1000 and to highlight the important work done by these organisations.”

“The event was loads of fun and an exhilarating experience to be next to such a fast car on a race track,” says Brandon Beack. “What made it even better was the fact that I was there representing a greater cause for QASA.”

When asked what value his QASA membership offered him, he noted: “It’s knowing that you’re not alone in this journey living with a spinal cord injury. To have people we can reach out to and help guide us, through their personal or professional experience.”

The Cape 1000 will be running from Sunday, 16 March, to Thursday, 21 March. The drivers visit Stellenbosch, Gordon’s Bay, Hermanus, Montagu, Franschhoek, Tulbagh, Wellington, Paternoster and Langebaan before finally finishing in Cape Town over the course of the four days.

The public are welcome to follow along with the full programme available on The Cape 1000 website. A showing of all the vehicles will be held on Sunday, 16 March, at the Cape Town Hotel School in Mouille Point from 14:00 till 16:00, which will include the Ferrari 296 GTS.
