Adriaan Kruger is in urgent need of a new wheelchair accessible vehicle. His current vehicle has become unreliable and expensive to maintain. As a switchboard controller at Foskor, a producer of phosphate-based products, Adriaan needs to travel daily. As he lives in Phalaborwa, Limpopo, there aren’t very many accessible transport alternatives.
He shares on his website: “I urgently need to replace my unreliable vehicle, which is my lifeline to independence and employment. Unfortunately, my current vehicle is no longer trustworthy, and I cannot risk traveling far or relying on others for transportation.”
His current vehicle, a 2011 VW Transporter Crewbus, has almost 190 000 km and suffered a major setback a few years ago when a head gasket blew, according to the website.
“To maintain my independence, I require a wheelchair-friendly vehicle with an under-vehicle wheelchair lift. A Volkswagen Transporter Crewbus is ideal for my needs, but it’s become unaffordable,” he adds.
Adriaan is asking for donations to make up the R600 000 needed to fund the vehicle and the wheelchair lift conversion required. All the quotes are available on his website for complete transparency. In 1990, Adriaan was injured during a game of touch rugby, which resulted in him becoming a C5/6 quadriplegic at the age of 17. The wheelchair lift will make transfers much easier and safer.
“This is where I humbly ask for your support. I’ve created this page to raise funds for a reliable, wheelchair-accessible vehicle. Your contribution will significantly impact my life, enabling me to continue working and living independently,” Adriaan writes.
Donations can be made directly to Adriaan (his details are on this website) or via the BackaBuddy campaign.
