The annual SABAT QASA day was held this year at Tarlton Raceway, which is a drag race strip near Krugersdorp, on Heritage Day 24 September 2026.
There was a full house of quads and paras who attended and took part in the motorised wheelchair race during the day. The race was held in the lunch break with the racers racing from the start lights to a specific spot and then back again. This year all three top places were held by women!
Diana took first place followed by Sonika in second and Constance finishing third.
The thrill of hearing the huge engines of the various types of cars, bikes and trucks thundering down the quarter mile strip competing against each other and the clock had all the attendees parked up against the fence under the SABT gazebos.
None more so that when the jet car driven by Nico van Rensburg shot down the strip in just over six seconds at over 400 kms!
The SABAT hosts were their usual generous selves, giving each person with a disability a backpack filled with great items, including a T-shirt, cap, cushion, snacks, stick-on-tattoos, lip ice, sunscreen and a goody back with soap, washcloth and cream.
As usual, the food was excellent and there was an unending supply of refreshments and water as the day was a particularly hot one.
I’m sure that all who attended enjoyed the adrenalin-filled day. Thanks to SABAT for their ongoing support!
